In an effort to reduce the emphasis on travel racing and points hunting before athletes have reached proper maturity, the international governing body for ski racing, FIS, has changed the age classification system. USSA has followed. The result is that the first year a athletes will be eligible for sanctioned and scored racing will be 14 rather than 13. The first year for international sanctioned competition will be 16 rather than 15. This age change also impacts Buddy Werner. It will only be open to U12 athletes, those who are 10 or 11 as of January 1 of the year the competition is held. The change is a little confusing, but the age classification has always been that way. Feel free to query the Parent Coaches, Mike Hoyt and Dave Spear, the MARA Operations Manager, Troy McCrae, or your athlete’s coach if you have questions. Think Snow!!!
